Upcoming 12:13 Activities!
Parents, please make note of these upcoming events. We trust these will be fruitful and fun activities for your Middle School students!
SATURDAY, APRIL 19 — ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
We will meet in the parking lot at Summit Hall Elementary School (101 West Deer Park Road, Gaithersburg) from 9:00 AM – Noon on Saturday, April 19. Our goal is to pick up trash along the stream and help beautify this part of our community. Gloves, bags, and trash pick-up sticks will be provided by the City of Gaithersburg. Students should come dressed to get wet and muddy. We’re going to have a blast! (Note: Each student will earn 3 SSL hours for participating in this stream clean-up project.)
JUNE 29 — MODERN PARABLES STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL!
During May and June the 12:13 class will be studying the Parables of Jesus in a 6-part DVD series called “Modern Parables.” Rather than having our typical Bible Bowl competition at the end, we are going to have a student film festival. All students (individually or in teams) are encouraged to submit a short, original film for public viewing in the final 12:13 class before our summer break.
Guidelines for submissions are as follows:
- Must be based on a parable of Jesus (though creativity is encouraged)
- Must be 3 minutes or less (no exceptions)
- Adult assistance, special effects, etc. are all welcome
- Each film must be submitted on a DVD playable from a laptop computer
A $25 prize awaits the Grand Champion. I look forward to seeing Middle School creativity on display!
JULY 24-26 — 12:13 MIDDLE SCHOOL RETREAT
This summer we will offer our first-ever 12:13 Summer Retreat. Each of the three days will feature a mix of biblical teaching and fun activities geared toward the energy, interests, and attention span of a Middle School audience. In order to keep the cost of participation low, we will be holding the retreat at our own church facility but will supplement on-site meetings with off-site activities.
Within the next few weeks all parents will receive an online survey soliciting your input about retreat activities and expenses. In the meantime, please mark your calendar for July 24-26!
