10/19/14: Others (Part 4)
After three weeks of learning about how to make and maintain friendships, we took the opposite approach in Sunday’s class. Our topic? How To Mess Up A Friendship. Students spent the time in groups of different sizes discussing how to avoid seven deadly sins that ruin relationships.
Sin #1: Judge me (Matthew 7:1)
Sin #2: Slander me (James 4:11)
Sin #3: Gossip about me (Proverbs 16:28)
Sin #4: Exclude me (James 2:1,9)
Sin #5: Lie to me (Colossians 3:9)
Sin #6: Look down on me (1 Peter 5:5)
Sin #7: Betray me (Romans 12:10)

We ended by recognizing that all of us will fail in our friendships — we will hurt and disappoint each other again and again. But there is One who will never disappoint us. We have a faithful Friend who, though slandered by opponents and betrayed by his friends, demonstrated the greatness of his love by laying down his life for us. “If we are faithless, he remains faithful” (2 Timothy 2:13).
